Are the rivers treated as Water Trails where you live ?
Perhaps they are maintained and worked upon by
state agencies or strictly volunteer sweat equity ?
Two trails
I have been involved on putting two trails together. One was on a river and the other around a lake. The river trail was a collaboration with the county. The volunteers did the heavy lifting but the county worked on the grant funding, arranged for the graphic artist, and set the kiosks in place. The lake trail was a collaboration with the Army Corp. They were trying to increase recreational use of one to their flood control reservoirs. Again the volunteers did most of the leg work with the corps providing funding and some management. They also agreed to take long term responsibility for a large paddle in campground we funded. Both project were dependent on cooperation between volunteers and various government agencies. Both went very smoothly considering how little we knew.

Our Pamlico Tar River Foudation,
www.ptrf.org, a non-profit protecting our fine river in eastern NC is working on a paddle trail and camping platforms along it through fundraising, grants, and volunteers. County has little interest and city has little funds. Cheap property taxes though. R
No STATE river maintenance…?
Perhaps no one looks out for paddlers in some states …
- zero woody debris removal
- zero building of access launch spots
- zero building of websites sharing info
Maybe some states work entirely thru 501-c3 nonprofit organizations ?
