We were paddling on a saltwater river at Murrell’s Inlet, SC. We saw a small object flopping in the middle of the river that turned out to be an immature grackle. My son scooped him out of the water and he gratefully stood on Wade’s shoe as he paddled over to the marsh grass and the bird happily hopped off.
On the way back, a huge ray flew out of the water and did a belly flop . It was a great morning. The salt marsh is always an interesting place to paddle.
Wow How much did he weigh?

Don’t know. I wanted to snap a pic and get a quick measurement before releasing it. It was over 20" , according to the measuring marks I sharpied onto the gunwales. I didn’t bother with girth and weight (not worth the additional stress on the fish).
