Web w/ metal ring - tie canoe down?

A while back I ran across a few websites that talked about making some tie down points for the front of vehicle that attached to some bolts inside of the engine bay. I remember there being a link on how to make these. I can’t find them. Anyone know where this information might be.

Or what these things are called?

Thanks!

Luke

I don’t know
who makes them commercially. But I do my own:

A leftover piece of web, glued into a loop with the hot glue gun. a hole drilled or punched through the glued end and then you can attach them to a fender screw (add a washer)underneath your bonnet.

The loop shows through the gap between hood and fender if you need it or gets tucked away if you don’t. With some vehicles (like my wife’s Focus) you don’t even need the screw: we tied a web loop around a bracket behind the headlights.

Long enough to show ~1 inch outside the hood.

Has been on the vehicle for ~65k mls without damage to the paint or any other problems. Easier to reach than tow hooks (if those modern vehicles had any…) and gives a nice, short legged A-frame in your rope…

Try this!!!

Those are very similar to what I’m wanting. Their universal strap is a very good idea.

Does anyone know where you could similar metal grommets? Is there a tool to use for these? Or would metal washers be good enough for the bolt down style? Do you have to have a tool for working with grommets?

Thanks,

Luke

Lowes or Home Depot
REI might carry these also. The grommets come in a package along with a simple tool to use for attaching them. You position the tool over the grommet and webbing then pound with a hammer.

they stole my idea…
exactly mine…

guess, no patent on that one-have to keep working…
