I'll soon have a new kayak and I'm interested mostly in lake and river kayak touring. I've looked over some maps and Choptank in eastern MD looks good. But I'd like to find some closer to home (closer to DC and Baltimore). If you've been on some really good experiences on MD rivers, I'd be interested thanks.

Eastern Shore
is better. Paddling is a much more enjoyable experience with fewer houses on shore. We frequent the Bohemia, Sassafras, Langford Creek (off the Chester), Worton, Fairlee, Wye. Any day in the off season, weekdays only during the season. We tend to avoid big open water and spend time poking around all the tributaries. On the west shore, the West and Rhode might be nice. I’ve sailed in there. Anywhere around Annapolis is a madhouse but can still be fun. You might want to check out the Chesapeake Kayak Association.
