what is the debate about?

they just posted the results of the back to the Chattahoocie race. They allowed double blades in thecanoe classes so I was nervous at the starting line. There were several boats that were ultralights in my class. My boat is not an ultralight by any stretch, and with my large bottom in it we are heavy.

Still In the Open class canoes The StrictPaddler and this BaldPaddler came in first, even though we were using single blades, and were a Mixed team.

I am surprised that the bigger, younger all mens teams using the doublepaddles didn’t smoke us.

The race is about 10 miles overall with a bouy(island )turn and 2 miles upstream. Admitadly 10 miles is too long to sprint, but too short not to try.

Wind Resistance
A baldpaddler would certainly slice through the winds more effeciently, right?

True
but I had no luck getting my Stern paddler to shave here hair so I guess it cancels out!

congratulations on your win
Nascar has standard rules and wish everyone followed usca rules or better yet give many first place prizes. POst rules ahead of time on web site until fewer bad vibes. There is something sacred and beautiful about canoes paddled with canoe paddles and in NY kayak paddles are illegal in canoes.

sounds like a common sense environmental
… law for conservation of resources. Gotta hand it to the great state of New York, they are really out in front on this stuff ; )

c’mon kids
could be Dave means in USCA races in New York yack paddles are illegal?

yea, I considered that

... but after working up here, I'm betting they really are illegal. I'm not taking any chances.

USCA only
This is from the USCA Competition Rules…

Paddles: Any number of single blade paddles of any material and size may be in the canoes. A

competitor may use only one paddle at a time. Any number of double bladed paddles may be used in

kayaks only.

I can’t imagine (and I have a wild imagination) that the great state of New York bans double bladed paddles in the general public’s canoes.

Rules of tools…
…reserved for the sacred mules

are fine for that race

but not in pace with we fools

whom when hampered by elements

or just moving on at our leisure

discriminate no tool from the task

to propel a canoe at our pleasure.

As long as it’s quiet

and belches neither oil or its smoke

then I’m sure your canoe is lovely

but, c’mon! That Barney umbrella is a joke!
