I found this Orb Weaver setting up near my back door.

Got my own Little Shop of Horrors going on.

Love the photo of the Black Vultures cuddling. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and vultures have very good eyesight.

I believe you’re right!

You might have to zoom in on the first pic to get some context on size, but seeing this large snake swim across the lower Missouri was quite a sight!

That is a big un! Any idea what it is?

Looks like a black rat snake to me, from what I can make out. They get up to eight feet in length.

Green Heron with an artificial lure. Fortunately the hook had rusted away. (Good reason to retrieve fishing gear and monofilament line if you can). Taken at Oakwood State Park near Brookings, SD, from my Sawyer Shockwave.

I’ve picked up and handled a couple. Very docile usually.

I make it a point to remove monofilament and lures whenever I find them. It’s the worst kind of litter because it kills.

Yes, and can make good pets. Also they are notoriously good climbers. When I was in high school, some friends who kept snakes had the cool idea of putting their black racer in a built in display case in the hall where the science classes were taught. Unfortunately, the interpretive signs talking about snakes were fastened into position using push pins, and the snake apparently used them as a ladder to climb into the hanging ceiling.

I was warned to be on the look out (I kept snakes too), making our classes more exciting than usual. Several classes later, the snake was found, fortunately by its owner, looking out of the ceiling tiles in a nearby class room, and was recaptured.

For a brief time between college and the Army, I was a 7th grade science teacher. I caught a black snake and brought it to school in a large jar.
Most of the kids thought it was cool, but one girl freaked. No more live critters that semester.

We had a visitor to the boat while cod fishing.

Do sharks eat cod? Probably every chance they get.

This one ate a cod before we got it in the boat. Left us the head.

I’m sad to report my the DMC FZ300 has bitten the dust. It took some good splashes a few paddles ago. It would power on but one of the rear buttons was stuck on. I put it in my sealed box with my hand tools, and more importantly, a big tin of silica gel and let it sit awhile. It doesn’t power up now.

I’ll put it back and try some more but I’m not hopeful.

I managed to drown mine thru my own dumb carelessness - didn’t latch the day hatch where I had stashed it when the waves got big, and it ended up in an inch of water. I bought another. It was an expensive way to get an extra battery.

Mine went for a quick swim. I took the battery and SD card out and left the door to them open then put in on a hot pad when I got home. It took a day and a half, but it started working again. It was freshwater not saltwater though.

I also had really fine sand at the beach get imbedded in the gap between the body and shutter button causing it to stick in place. I used a thin needle too remove the sand. That also worked for me.
