Wood care

I have Swift Shearwater that I just bought not long ago, with Cherry gunnels and decks. Can some of you please tell me what you put on your wood to keep it looking good and to preserve it.

Thank You

most use some type of oil
Some make a concoction of boiled linseed oil, turpentine and vinegar.

Most use a commercially available product such as Watco Danish Oil, Gunwale Guard, Teak Oil, Tung Oil, or Deks Olje.

A few prefer bright finishing their wood trim with varnish.

We use and like Tung oil and like it

Get sawdust on your tung?

second Tung oil
Wipe it down once a month at a minimum or after every paddle maximum.

In my sailing days I was told to apply it once an hour for a day, once a day for a week, once a week for month, and once a month forevermore. Now I understand that procedure is considered more often than is needed.

I would be delighted if you the" keeper
of the forums" could tell me how to edit a subject.

You can't edit it. But you can delete the entire post and start over. If your post is followed only by junk posts like mine, what's the harm?
