I’ve looked at the MultiMounts that attach to my roof rack, but has anyone made something less expensive? Maybe as simple as some foam wrapped around the crossbars and then a figure eight tie down? $50 for paddle transport (MultiMounts) is more than I care to invest.

Multimounts work
I have a 1 piece 230cm foam-cored carbon paddle that I carried on my rack for about three years, 100 days a year. No ill effects whatsoever. The multimounts hold the paddle or up to four paddles really well. If you have a small car and a one piece paddle, it’s definitely better than having the paddle wedged between your dash and the back window.
