Yukon River Traveling Whitehorse to Daws

Has anyone made the trek from Whitehorse to Dawson City? What kind of canoe would be best? Any advice for this trip? Best time of year? Any suggestions adn advise would be appreciated! (Yes, we know the mosquitoes will be bad!)

We hire the canoe (Old Town XL)

two persons could get away with a Old Town 174 but we had a lot of gold panning equipment

The logistics are easy with a shuttle bus between the two citys..The best canoe would be one that can haul a bunch of gear...Its mostly a float trip..I stayed at the Robert Service camp ground in Whitehorse which is a good place to put in..I droped my gear at the camp ground and then drove my truck to Dawson then took the bus back to Whitehorse and headed out...your gunna love it...If the wind is blowing on Lake Labarge and the white caps appear GET OFF the lake...It took me five days just to cross the 35 miles on the lake due to rough weather..the earlist I would go would be the second week of June..the ice is usually out by the end of May..ck this site kayakyukon.ca.....the bugs are not bad, camp on the islands
