Boats on cars - let’s see ‘em!

They look amazing! What did you use to get them so clean and shiny?

Hard work

I first took them to the car wash and power washed as much grime off as I could. Used simple green a few times when I got home, inside and out. And lots of elbow grease. I’d work on them after work when it wasn’t so hot and some weekends, just took my time doing what needed to be done.

Is that a doggy door?

No, it’s just a storage door but the dog could jump in there if he wanted to. You can stand on it to access the roof.

On my previous boat. I used the Malone suction cup rack and also the Malone channel loader which is also suction cup and allows you to simply roll up from back of car.

So the only thing holding your roof racks, and therefore your kayak, to the roof is 4 suction cups? I’m amazed that it works.

no, there also cam straps (not shown) that go through the doors. The suction cups allow you to place the rack on any car that does not have factory racks.

Got a new paddle craft and camping gear carrier - a Rav 4 Hybrid. The 10 year old Honda Fit was stilling running well, with only 65k on the odometer. But I got tired of trying to stuff a week’s of “glamping” and flyfishing gear into the tight “Fit”. Also, the Rav 4 Hybrid is averaging about 40 MPG, even with two surf crafts strapped on top for the past week, compared to the Fit’s 28/9 MPG with surf crafts on top.

Surf crafts come off today and the cargo space will store gear for a week in western ME mountains.

Mahalo, for a great week of surf paddling!
