Can you improve on the PB&J?

I like a good 'ol PB&J with Welch’s grape jelly and Peter Pan or Skippy (Jif is to sweet), but my fave is the peanut butter and banana on light deli rye. The rye holds a full banana easier that white or wheat.
Second place goes to peanut butter and raisins on wheat. I like TomL’s strawberry idea too.

PB & dried cranberries (“craisins”) works too!

Absolutely. I like them in my oatmeal too.

Wjere did you sail in the BVI? i used to regularly go down to rent a small villa on Gorda, mostly to snorkel and dive, but sailed a few times. One of myfave places so far in the Western Hemisphere.

as to pita bread, I find it rather dry for PB &J, but the Indian naan that both Trader Joe’s and Aldi sell has a softer and moister texture that works well, especially if you split it. just make dure you don’t get the garlic version, though I love that for sardine or tuna sandwiches.

Garlic PB&J :face_vomiting:

We chartered out of Road Town on the Moorings, went to Cooper, the Baths, Bitter End, Anegada (2 days) JVD-Diamond Key and Norman. Not much wind for sailing but otherwise had a blast. I think I posted some pics in the photo thread a few weeks ago (end of April).

I have to wonder how a slice of spam would go with mint jelly? Fat Elmo might already know that…

I’ve put diced Spam on pizza along with pineapple (though I prefer sweet Italian sausage or crisped Prosciutto to Spam). Tart fruits go well with pork products.

Best pbj i had was at bb king’ s eatery in memphis, they deep fried it and powdered it with sugar.

I seem to recall that Elvis’ favorite snack was deep-fried PB and banana sandwiches.

Sounds like a “Hawaiian pizza!” Closer to the original PB&J, I can be tempted by Nutella with strawberries and cream over a thin crepe. As a post paddle pig-out indulgence, of course!

Sounds tasty

Odd that they didn’t mention it in the Men’s Health article I read about PB&J’s

Well this is an influential group. I bought some PB made with only peanuts and also some almond butter. Will try cashew butter next and sunflower butter last. Also bought a loaf of fresh sourdough bread from our local country bakery.

Regarding the fresh, local, in-season Michigan strawberries I blissfully reject all the inferior alternatives mentioned. The blueberry festival in South Haven is in early August so we eat strawberries now while our tummies growl waiting for the sweet corn.

Iceberg lettuce instead of jelly with pickles on the side. Sounds weird but try it.

Fresh kernels scraped off the cob, on top of the PB!

Mmmm! Spam!

Variety makes the world go 'round!
(PB and tomato - not the plastic supermarket sort.)

I improve on mine by omitting the jelly.

I thought it was PB, jelly, banana, and bacon. Maybe mayo, too—triple UGH on that one.

I once watched a fellow bike rider, a spry and fit old guy, make a sandwich using literally every sandwich fixin’ that people had brought. PB, jelly, deli meats, sliced cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato, pretty sure there was cottage cheese, banana or sliced apple…

It all goes into the same place anyway.

Sure, but as paddlers we should all be able to agree it matters how you get there. :joy:
