Hello! Sorry for another paddle question … but given how impossible it is to get a Lendal paddle now, I was wondering if anyone has any experience comparing the touring Lendal paddles like Cadence and the Storm with the Kinetic or Omega paddles from Celtic? I’ve read up on their history and understood that they used to be the same company, but so far I haven’t really come across any detailed comparison between their paddles, and I would be grateful for any advice on this. Thank you!
I love paddling with a variety of paddles, I’ve gathered a few over the years.
Hopefully the low availability of the Lendal paddles is only temporary.
Celtic:
Kinetic 750 (light weight)
I like the big blade (for short paddle trips). The paddle, though I bought the ‘light weight’ still feels heavy (31 oz).
Omega 600 (light weight)
I got this one because I thought it would be a good paddle for either long paddles or to use on a ‘recovery’ day paddle after a prev. day long paddle.
It feels heavy (30 oz) and just didn’t feel right for me.
Lendal:
Cadence (area: 570)
I like this paddle, use occasionally, often on (recovery) days after a long paddle (previous day).
Cadence X (area: 650)
I like this paddle as well. Use it more often than the Cadence.
Storm (area: 690)
I bought a Storm when they first came out (2013). It broke in a moderate (not heavy) surf. Loved the paddle, but not the quality. Years later, after assurances from Joey Schott and Lendal that they changed their process, I got another one. No problems with it (though, even though they say it will handle it, I don’t use it in surf).
The Storm is my preferred paddle for my ‘short’ (under 25mile) paddles
There are many ‘Celtic’ devotees out there, but if I was looking for an alternative to Lendals, I would go with Werner or Aqua-Bound (or maybe Seglagear, I need more paddling experience with the paddle (‘Ultimax’ - I recently picked up from Marshall (RvrCnxn) )
Wow, thank you so much for your reply–this is the kind of insight I’m looking for! It’s just really unfortunate that Lendal doesn’t seem to be producing paddles anymore–definitely desperate for theirs after reading all the amazing reviews.
I looked up Seglagear after Marshall’s reply to my first post and contacted them, but unfortunately they don’t do custom shaft length (below 200cm) or diameter (only 29mm), which will not fit my short stature and hands. Werner doesn’t do adjustable shaft for their carbon Shuna or Cyprus, while Aquabound only has one shaft diameter now after I checked with them recently. Outside of European slalom brands (whose slalom paddles I really like/am interested in, but I learned recently that these specialised slalom paddles aren’t meant for sea water–or at least for G-Sports paddles–and in any case I would really love a ‘lighter gear’ shoulder-friendly option like Lendal’s Cadence for those long days) seems that Celtic is the only one that offers enough customisation for someone that is outside of the average consumer size! But since I’m not in Europe, shipping will cost me a fortune (the paddles themselves already will cost me a lot) and I’m hesitating on this investment …
Is there a reason you’re looking for the Lendal or Celtic paddles. Is it specic design features, blade area, swing feel or other brand specific features, rather than looking at domestic brands that not only cost less but are more obtainable?
Hi! I set out my reasons in my previous post here, but basically, as a shorter paddler (150cm) with baby hands who rent boats, I need adjustable (preferably around 196cm to 205cm ish), lightweight and smaller shaft (28mm and below) high-angle paddles, and Werner and Aquabound paddles don’t fit that criteria.
“PADDLE DELIVERY UPDATE:
Lendal will be moving the business to a new location and cannot deliver new orders until the move is complete, which may take several months. We recommend calling 585-270-5282 or e-mail sales@lendalna.com prior to placing an order.”
From what I saw online, it looks like this move has not been complete since mid 2023 or something when people started complaining about lack of response I do sincerely and truly hope they get it sorted soon as I would definitely give them my hard-earned money hahaha
Got it. Recall that now but didn’t connect with the previous post. Good l luck.
I’ve emailed Lendal too, yesterday…waiting to hear back. We’ll see.
Until they establish a new mfg location they don’t exist. I wish it were otherwise. Want a soon to be one piece 210cm Cadence. I need to fix that paddle and find it a home.
See you on the water,

Honestly…I’ve talked myself out of a Lindal. Too expensive with no guarantee of a warranty issue being resolved. When I spend that much I want future reassurance. I’m also not sure of Werner since the move. Hopefully their quality will stay the same. Only time will tell. At this point, I’m just going to wait for my wife’s Aquabound Tetra to arrive that I ordered a week ago. I might order one more myself after we check it out. She has a 220cm bent shaft on order. In the meantime I’m good until I’ve made my mind up. No rush on my end.
Say, @Marshall, not to stomp on this guy’s thread, but there is a guy who is going to do a circumnavigation of Ireland looking for an Henderson Foot Pump. Do you know where he can find one in the UK or Europe or suggest an alternative that would be accessible in the UK or Europe?
Thanks
mjac
Edit: The thread is located at “Nordkapp hm pump questions”.
That’s a bit of trivia I have no answer to. Only time I’ve run into that has been on special order P&H kayaks here at the Store. Only once in the past 22 years has someone requested one so I don’t know where P&H sources those from. If I had to make that choice I would go with a battery operated one using a magnetic activation switch. Lets you get back to paddling while the mechanism sees to the pumping. There’s a number of mfg. of those.
For some reason since it is going to be an extended trip he does not want an electric pump and said he wants to reduce electronics as much as possible. I guess he has his reasons. But thanks for trying to help.
Edit: You have been in business that long?
Still here (unless my Lotto numbers say otherwise today)
Response from Lindal just now…copied and pasted from my email…sure hope they pull thru
We are not operating at this time; we were already to start construction of our new plant in Rome NY in August 2024 on the Erie Canal and bike path. Then NY DEC stepped in and decided that no building could be started until May 2025. There is no one sorrier than our team that we are not making paddles. We will let you know when things change. Thanks for interest in Lendal, good choice in paddles as the Storm has no equals……
Niiiiice…
Edit: I hope you are still enjoying it.
Starting at $610. The last time I saw a paddle like that, it had a hook retriever and a bottle opener on it, and it cost half as much. If it’s all that good, you don’t need a warranty. Too bad they arent available at present or I’d buy ten of them
With that price point they outsold Werner $470 paddles at my Store for quite a few years. You haven’t seen the $550-$675 price tags on the new Aquabound Tetra from your surprise at the Lendal $. A high angle version of the Tetra will be in the offing I’m sure.
