Every tree will eventually fall, or be cut down. Never allow a tree large enough to damage your home to remain standing if it could reach your house. That’s my rule of thumb. It becomes very problematic if you have a close neighbor who believes otherwise.
Storms aren’t fun and doubly so if you have large trees near you.

I know a guy that was with 2 other guys up in the BWCA. Portaging, way out they were taking a break and tree fell across the middle of the canoe flattening it. They finally got the tree cut and removed, luckily it was a kevlar boat and they were able to limp the boat back in. It flexed a lot but they made it.

I’ve run into several the we had to go over. The down side was in the river.
