Humorous Craigslist Ads

Nice. I can dream!

What in the ever loving hades is this thing? The ad says " 3-Person Sit-on Kayak." My smart-aleck brain immediately thought, “well it can’t be a 3 person, there’s not 3 cup holders.” BUT THERE ARE 3 CUP HOLDERS. Get a load of the paddles! Only 2, so clearly a rip off, but still.

That’s a BSFO (boat-shaped floating object). Or maybe a whale pessary…

that looks more like a toboggan than a kayak. can you imagine trying to coordinate your paddling strokes while sitting in such close proximity with the other paddlers?

As a visual person, I am deriving endless pleasure from the imagining of it!

I think that was sotconverts first kayak.

BAHAHAH! I was thinking it should be his next!!

It appears to be this:

That looks, to me, like a sot that was “designed” to be used as a tandem or a solo. Like this one from a different company:

Which is a Crescent Splash II.

Don’t know the make or model so I can’t confirm, but it looks somewhat the same in intent.

You type faster than I do…

Very similar, but not the same. The one in the ad looks like it would do an endo if 3 people sat in it on the water, and I’d very much like to see that.

EDIT - I take it back. You are right, they are the same! The ad poster is on par with me for photography ‘skills’

Okay, this makes more sense. “Designed” indeed!

It would be a triple half roll.

Latest misunderstood SOF watercraft oddity on semi-local Craigslist. Check out the double bladed DIY “oar” (which could double as a pizza paddle). Somebody put a lot of work into this but I doubt it was the seller. Might be a good deal for somebody looking for an ultralight pack canoe. Hard to tell what they used for the skin:

what is it SOF

It’s sure purdy, though.

One of my hobbies is fiber arts, including hand spinning my own yarn. The watercraft oddities are nothing compared to what I see with antique “spinning wheels” people try to sell.

Totally agree. I have a soft spot for any tidy translucent skin on frame. I’m willing to bet it’s under 20 pounds. And using the 2 x 4’s that the sawhorse is made of for relative scale I’d say it is under 25" abeam. If it wasn’t over an hour away (and I wasn’t already well into compulsive hoarding territory with the fleet including a solo canoe) I would be tempted.

You should buy it simply so you can tell us how awesome it is, especially for $350. :sunglasses: Glad I’m nowhere near it and I’m not even a canoe guy.

Here’s one that’s not so much humorous, but at first glance, this looks like a bargain composite kayak with white hull and yellow deck for $499! Warm up the car! But closer inspection shows that it must have been stored upside down and that white hull is just severe sun fade on a formerly yellow plastic kayak.

Lord help me. I actually force myself to watch at least one episode of one of those cringeworthy “Hoarder” reality shows every month, or the “Picker” shows where they go through overstuffed barns and sheds.

It’s amazing how sitting through an hour of seeing the tons of junk people bury themselves under makes you suddenly start cleaning out closets and shoveling out stuff you haven’t touched in years, I had such a backlog during the months that Goodwill halted donations in the early pandemic.

The situation compounds as you get older and get family “heirlooms” passed along. My difficulty was that my parents hoarded cool stuff and died with a 4 story house full of including that from earlier generations. Did manage to unload half the furniture and china but how can you get rid of a bed your great great grandpa made out of walnut cut on his own farm? or hundreds of out of print books? Or jewelry and artworks from around the world that my college prof dad’s international students gave him and my mom over the years. My friends’ with the consignment department at their outdoor outfitter shop have helped a lot with liquidating stashes like my mountaineering and backpacking gear. And at least when I trade in a dozen books at HalfPrice books for $1 each credit I only go home with one new one.

But building a large garage/workshop for myself 18 months ago may have solved the tripping over boats on the basement floor issue, but it has taken any reasonable governor off acquiring more of them!

This just turned up on FB Marketplace. I had one for years. long before I got into kayaking (but with the KOOL cigarettes logo on the sale, a promo deal) and it was a blast for solo or tandem day sailing. Could easily solo load and carry it on the cheap ski rack of my '78 Datsun B210. Really neat little sailboat. I don’t see the daggerboard or rudder though. They tend to get lost in garages. The one I owned had marine plywood replacements fabricated by the guy who sold it to me.
