Tesla

Tesla's single publically known fatal crash of a 'safety system' is reviewed here.
There are similarities between kayak drownings without safety equipment and self driving vehicle accidents.
Traditional arguements are at hand seoerating the 2 problems ...the knowledgable kayaker accepts danger using sports equipment where the witless driver operates a refrigerator thus needing protection.
The hugely larger numbers involved in witless traffic the mass n speeds produce great public expense when gone wrong into damaging accidents.
Bicyclists ALWAYS had the wrong end of this shtick, always a priori at fault for getting run over. Recently state laws were written providing a statutory safe zone of several feet between vehicular traffic and bicycles.
The number of bicycles, potential uses for transportation removed this device from 'sport'...witless children commonly ride bicycles.
Fatality numbers are not far apart ...100 yaks to 700 cyclists.

Not really
Kayak capsizing only puts someone into the water. Despite how the news reports it, what ends up causing the fatality is paddlers who either can’t swim to shore or are too under dressed to survive the water temperatures.
Way too much focus on the kayak and too little on what the paddler should have in the way of fundamental skills and clothing before getting onto/into the boat.
Absolutely, and here’s confirmation:

“All of the kayakers survived today in large part because they were dressed for the weather, experienced, and had radios to call for help,” Lt. Katie Pelkey, public affairs officer at Air Station Traverse City, said.
