Have you paddled any part of the San Juan between Navajo Lake and Farmington? Wondering what its like for flatwater paddling, or if it is even possible. Looks intriguing, might be worth the trip from AZ.

Emmitt, yes I have, though it’s been quite a few years. There are a couple of diversion dams to be aware of but they aren’t difficult to portage around as I recall. Much depends on the water flow which is controlled at the Navajo Lake Dam. I kayaked a ~7 mile stretch once in the middle of winter when it was snowing and it’s still one of my more memorable paddles. Give me a shout if you decide to head over this way.

Sure thing! Thanks for the info. In the Southwest its not unreasonable to drive 300 miles for a worthy paddle. In MN, WI, MI, FL, New England you would go past 200 good places in that distance.

HD, I have the same shot taken on Lake Hartwell. Almost identical but my boat is orange.

While the smoke in the air is less than it was, it still provides the orange-tinge at sunrise and sunset.

Landscape is slowly changing on home water. But not too much along the Bear River. The incoming cold snap will probably change that.
