I feel the same way. I would not trade my Explorer for any other kayak. And that Nordkap, prettiest kayak made IMO.
I’ve been out there twice and still haven’t seen any monkeys. I guess that just means I’m going to have to make more trips.
I have seen the monkeys. Aggressive little beggars with teeth and nails and human like diseases. Sometimes they are afraid sometimes not. The old tour boat drivers used to feed them bread. Bad behavior trainer and now illegal. Stay back. They swim.
They seem to hang out deeper in the woods. State controls the population.
I’ve been to the Silver River probably half a dozen times and have seen the monkeys all but once. Look for the group of kayaks and canoes staring into the trees and you’ll find them. Usually on the upper half of the river, or at least that’s where I have seen them. I definitely keep a good distance but it is pretty neat to see them.
I paddled the Silver one Spring and the number and variety of babies was amazing. Monkeys, ducks, cormorants, gators, frogs.
Paddled out to the Cape Romano Dome House today. Such a weird sight to see - it was originally a house, built on land in the early 1980s. Erosion and a couple of hurricanes destroyed the interior and moved the edge of the island back a few hundred feet. The westernmost two domes collapsed during Hurricane Irma which made landfall very close by in 2017.
Tionesta creek early AM holding off rain.
My father built this Bear Mountain Endeavor kayak, so we had to invite him on our trip to Broken Group Islands (2008)

I’ve never been to the BGI. Always looked lovely. Pretty regulated these days?
Currently camping is not permitted due to COVID. When open for camping you have to purchase a camping permit on line prior to going there, years ago a Parks employee would come by and collect fees. There now are Beach Keepers from the Tseshaht First Nations that manage the Islands. It is a very busy area from June - September when open. There are different options for all levels of paddlers. It is so gorgeous there but too busy for me these days.

Concrete jellyfish bubble up and pop.
Cormorants come calling as hookers sport their bimini top.
Wingless Blue Angel makes soft landing on the beach.
