East Inlet, Pittsburg NH
We see pitcher plants all the time paddling, but this was the first time I saw one flowering.

Kayaker’s Mantra
So much I see
upon the sea
rolling, rolling rolling.
The hills, the fog,
the heaving waters.
Earth cycles ever rolling.
And here within
a little ship
heartbeats wonder extolling.
Through all for I
this righteous trip
forever needs its rolling.
O-o-o-o-o. Nice one.
Nirvana.
Looks like the kind of place that I love. Wild and unpopulated coast and forest, these places are good for the soul!
@castoff that top photo is just stunning.
I have only had the pleasure of being in a setting like that twice. It takes my breath away.
Thanks for sharing.
I love black water rivers through sand.
Thanks. the sun shining just right through the Spanish Moss caught my eye for sure.
It may be of interest to you in how Spanish Moss got it’s name. I have heard it said the early Spanish settlers derogatorily called it English Beard, and the English settlers called it Spanish Beard. Today it is known as Spanish Moss as in this country English became the dominate language. I don’t know the validity of that , but it came from a knowledgeable source.
Silver River near Ocala FL second pic is the shadow of my 18’ kayak on the river bottom, probably 20 feet deep there
Grey beards gather over gossamer matter,
particulate matters that did,
these limbs will floss as wind rolls in moss,
sun threading the canopy that’s over id.
And let us not forget the insults (and cattle) hurled over parapet walls by the French, “You English Canigget!”
May 3, 1901 sparks from a kitchen fire sparked fire in spanish moss at a nearby mattress factory. It burned down Jacksonville, Fl. It was the lasgest metro fire in the south.

Back then theyd wash and dry the moss to get rid of the bugs .
LOL! So it was the French and Spanish that were doing the name calling. The English probably called it both names in retrospect. Those 3 powers were rivals in the new world. Thanks for fact checking my story.
