Pretty Pictures - Just Pretty Pictures

NotThePainter isn’t the only photographer in the family. This was the morning view from our campsite last week while we were at Lake Francis Campground in Pittsburg, NH. I could get used to views like this.

When we can’t paddle it…

Sometimes it would be nice to have the coolness of snow and ice but just 10-15 degrees in the shade of a suburban creek is a relief. Durbin creek goes along between housing developments. The put in is off the grocery store parking lot. But once on the creek it seems far away… till the jet skis show up.

Car read 103 degrees when we got back.

Howdy,

These pictures are so great!

The photography nerd in me wants to know what you all are using for gear and how you’re keeping it safe.

I picked up a Fuji XP140, just so that I didn’t have to fumble with a cell phone in a waterproof pouch. I sure do miss the controls / ‘better keeper rate’ of my SLR though.

My phone is never accessible when I paddle. It’s in a Pelican Box in a hatch with my wallet, keys and passport when appropriate. I have never taken a photo on the water with a phone.

For the past 11 years I have primarily used a Pentax Optio W60 which is a 10mp waterproof unit that fits in a small pocket on my PFD. It is OK and selected primarily for its size and the fact that its waterproof.

Prior to that I used a Canon PowerShot A510 pumping a whole 3.2mp. Not waterproof and the lens cover succumbed to the salt after a couple of trips but the thing produced some pretty good images, some of which are included on this thread.

A few years ago I started carrying a 12mp Canon PowerShot A2100 under the deck for shooting after camp was set up. It isn’t a miracle worker but seems to do a slightly better job than the W60.

I will never carry a really good camera and likely will never own one. At some point I will probably buy a new waterproof point and shoot but size is a decisive factor for me as every square inch of storage, above and below deck, is spoken for on a trip and photography is not a hobby of mine.

Love this photo. Got a laugh out of it too when I expanded it. The small preview image on my phone made me ask, “Why does this person take a kickball when they go paddling?”

Most of my shots are with my waterproof iPhone which fits in a pocket of my PFD. Of course I cracked it doing wet-entry practice…

For wildlife I use a Panasonic FZ300 which has decent image quality and is splash proof. I keep that on the floor of the boat in front of the seat. Hmm… that’s an entanglement hazard! I should remove the strap.

That’s pretty. What is Upper Lake Mary close to?

I click on this thread and get a photo with an attractive young woman with a revealing top.
I only stare a little.
I may be old, but I’m still male.
