Some of my boats are relatively expensive and some are average (but still more expensive than "junk boats"). The people I paddle with know exactly why I chose the boats I have. I don't have to justify or explain those choices to any of them, and they are not "impressed" in any way shape or form - they just "understand".

The people I know who are NOT paddlers would NOT be impressed in any way, and yes, I HAVE heard the comment "why would you spend that much on a boat to which you can't even attach a motor?" Impressing people with my choice of boats just doesn't enter into the picture, and I believe that is true for most other paddlers too.
