Yes yes
On the forums page (https://forums.paddling.com/) at the top is the paddling.com red logo image. If I click that, it sends me to https://forums.paddling.com/. I was thinking it would be better to send to https://paddling.com/.
The reason I click this is to get over to the “Win Stuff” link for my daily entry. An alternate fix would be to add this link to the Forums page.
No need to limit characters.
You are right, as of right now, there is no way to get to the paddling.com homepage (or the sweepstakes page) from the forums. Let me see what we can do.
Actually, not quite true. The “Gear & Reviews”, “Go Paddle”, “Learn”, “Community” and “Store” menu at tip does take you to the page. So it is a 2-step process to get to the contest entry - click one of those and then click the contest link.
I come here for the forums. I use many different forums online. This by far is the worst I have ever come across. YES I tried different themes. Now this is a link to a gun forum. Just to show you how a forum should be setup. Its SIMPLE. KISS principal. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php Has sections for different subjects clearly laid out. I don’t want to see every NEW post if its a subject say about SUP as I could care less about that subject. Why such a BAD design? I can point you to many different forums that are MUCH easier to use. Here is another https://www.dpreview.com/forums The fact you have to have INSTRUCTIONS on how to use the site tells the whole story. Instructions Should Not be Needed.
@dc9mm
I really think it is a matter of
- what you are accustomed to seeing
- personal preference
For me, speaking totally as end user, the way DPreview’s forums displays replies is really frustrating. You have to hit next to see each reply. Here is an example.
Good news, you can mute any category (or users or tags) you would like in your settings:
Yup, got that too, just click on categories. You can also set that as your default view in your settings.
Our goal, beyond improving speed and stability, was to get to a power platform that really lets you customize the message boards to fit your individual needs. We will keep working to improve it and meet the requests of the paddling community.
So I just (accidentally) discovered a 2 features that I was previously unaware.
- To make sure you go to the most recent reply for any post in a list, click on the timestamp in the far right column (in Light and Dark themes at least) to go directly to the most recent post (green arrow) in the screenshot.
- To see (and go directly to) the date of the first and last post, click on the number of replies (red arrow above) and this pops up. Just click on either the top or bottom to go directly to either end of the post.
Absolutely right arm.
Okay, I give up. It seems there is no way to “reply” to a particular post. And I am not interested in reading instructions. I’ve never needed instructions for any other forum.
@magooch
I’m using the “Classic” theme. On the right lower corner of every post there’s a blue box with an arrow. The text within the box is “Reply.” Click it and start writing your response. Same box and text also appears as a separate stand alone at the bottom of the page under the last reply.
It’s the same on my Windows desktop, my iPhone and my iPad. In checking out the other themes, the “Reply” is still there but not in a colored box.
Because I was responding to your post that says there is “no way to ‘reply’ to a particular post.” I added the “@” to make sure you were aware of it.
