So first stop was dry, not enough water in sugar creek, they have a no wading policy at shades state park and much dragging would have been necessary. Wiped myself out ravine hiking.
Kayaking with pat, pjc, on the kickapoo WI. We joined an organized event celebrating the stopping of a dam on the kickapoo over 30 years ago. Lunch was by a chef and featured native wild rice and wisconsin cheeses, event sponsored by kickapoo river reserve and WI river alliance.
It was good to see and paddle with you again. And, for me, it was good to see some of the River Alliance folks who I’d fallen so far out of touch with. Thanks for instigating.
Tomorrow back to the mecan river, i got to admit to wearing down a bit, 7 or 8 days of paddling and traveling in the camper but I’ll blame it on the haze!
I wasnt sure how today was going to work out, the weekend before the 4th of july, no planned campsite, headed to the peshtigo river in wi. I knew it was very low, -3". Ended up getting a campsite and shuttle for $20 at kosirs. Had the river to myself, put my game face on from my video days and dialed up the run in an hour. I boat scouted from the top of the drops and danced around the rocks. I like just a little water to go with my rocks. No pics, wanted all my focus on the water but a ton of fun. Not everybody’s cup of tea, they stop the commercial duckies at +3" but i sure had fun.
We had a really good time both on & off of the water with @tdaniel . The Jordan is ‘The Promised Land’ for Ruth who’s father grew up on a sand farm above the headwaters. Here’s a couple more shots from the day on the Jordan:
The new Northstar did great. A couple of new scratches but that’s life for a boat that lives with us. I was a little concerned when we high cenered on a log that I thought had enough water to slide over but no harm, no foul.
