View from the camp today

Ok, what does the view from your paddle trip this weekend look like?

Nice.

That looks like Lake Hartwell.

Looks like every lake in the southeast with clay soil and fall colors. Water level looks down too.

Wednesday a week ago on Awendaw creek.

Thursday a week ago crossing the marsh and Bulls Bay to Bull Island.

Friday a week ago in Sparkleberry Swamp.

Twelve Mile Bay, just south of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.

Collecting garbage on the way back from an overnight trip this past weekend before things start to freeze up. I wouldn’t have towed that escaped dock float as far as I did, had it not been for a very strong tailwind pushing me toward home.

St. Marys River, GA Yesterday

Friday on the Red Cedar:

Sunday of the Grand (Birthday Paddle)

I was off Wednesday to Sunday, and didn’t get out to paddle.

I did get out for a short hike on Saturday.

The crew - Erik, Brian, Darren Bill and Conrad

I got to sit home with a sick grandson and hope we didn’t get it
We did, but it was manageable.

I spent the weekend just hanging around.

Nice winter coat but not waterproof.

That’s a lot of orange. Hunting season?

Still bow hunting around here until mid December.

On Lake Seminole we dodged the duck hunters when kayaking thru the stumps. They wear all camo in camo boats. They look like a small bushy thing where it shouldn’t be. I didn’t see any ducks other than some small divers and LOTS of ole’ coots. Nothing worth shooting.

Fall hits the south later than up north.

Those were at West Point Lake on the Chattahoochee river. The following is from Lake Seminole, where the Flint River and Chattahoochee rivers combine.

Well who would have thought? I never figured leaves would change colour down there. I guess it makes sense, just never thought about it. It seems like it’s “always summer” in Florida, except for those few odd times you get some flakes of snow.

We woke up at West Point, GA, 168miles north of FL, to 36 degrees and a light frost. Fall colors start in October and go all the way till Feb or Mar. Think individual trees not whole gang displays. Water and wind was chilly. Neoprene was the style of the day. Of course it was headed to 70 degrees.

I have thought about paddling the Flint. It’s not too far.

West Point looks nice but the sewage water from Atlanta is a bit unnerving.
