What is your favorite place you've ever paddled?

I came bow to nose with one about that size on the Silver. Not many places to run! He went under just as I was getting concerned.

All the animals, birds and fish on the Silver have seen so many people that they aren’t as afraid. Cautious? yes but not afraid .

To answer the question, I agree with Detritus aka Castoff. Most of the time it’s wherever I am in a boat.

You have seen the light! I knew it was just a matter of time that my good influence would have an affect on you. You make me proud!

Some Photos of one of my favorites.

Enoree River.
String is in the WS Tarpon 16 going around the bend at the left.

The Enoree floods after every heavy rain event in the upstate. so is constantly changing.

My first favorite place was the Boundary Waters i.e. Quetico/Minnesota. This started in 1956 when i was a teenager and continued into my twenties - no permits, no pfds, no other people, no clue, but beautiful.

I then ceased paddling until starting to kayak in 2006/2007. Now I paddle in the PNW where it is hard to pick a favorite place, maybe the Broughton Archipelago out of Paddlers’ Inn. Most of my paddling is on Lake Pend Oreille unless I can get to the ocean (just got back from paddling in the Nanaimo area).

That’s where I did most of my paddling this year, in varying sea conditions. I put in at the boat launch at Odiorne SP and paddle around Newcastle, out to the lighthouse, and then back along the shore line. Makes for a fun day. I went there on Thursday just to do a lap around the lighthouse.

Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz. Kayakers get to surf that iconic point break (unharassed) only at the annual Santa Cruz Paddle Surf Festival.

At the 18th annual festival, I managed to hook up with some one on the west coast willing to lend me his plastic Riot Boogie for comps. Got the longest ride for me ever. Think I caught a wave somewhere outside lined up to the west of the Surfer’s Memorial Statue. Rode that wave all the way to Santa Cruz wharf, past the ferris wheel towards Cowells beach. Got to be close to a quarter of a mile. Helped get me third place in the novice plastic boat division.

Spartina grass maze at the delta of the Housatonic at Long Island Sound. Not as glamorous or spectacular as many of the locales pictured here or many other places I have kayaked or canoed, but this was one of those perfect and mellow days on the water. Lots of waterfowl spotted including a flock of 9 great white herons that rose like a host of angels as we rounded one bend. We eventually found our way out of the maze and paddled around the Sound all afternoon. Just before sunset we headed back and hauled out onto a dock at a good seafood restaurant for dinner, then continued upriver under the full moon with the lights along the shore twinkling on the water to our launch ramp under the Derby-Shelton Bridge.

Martha and I spent ten days paddling between islands in the Sea of Cortez; leaving from and returning to Bahia de Los Angeles in March of 1999. Still, still mornings among the whales, giant osprey nests atop rock outcrops, fabulous spearfishing, and unbelievable stargazing.

Atlantic Canada is special as it would be impossible to kayak all in a lifetime. In New Brunswick: Belleisle Creek channel at Hatfield Point and Mount Carleton Park. Nova Scotia: Schubie canal in Halifax or Tusket River from Trout Point Lodge (lodge is expensive but world class)

So many beautiful Paddling places to choose from; Kayaking has to be the Antarctica Peninsula.

Canoe Paddling or looking back on the river we were paddling down or just a pretty sunset
