Cant get to the feeder. Mom got it later
Spider bear and the new feeder.
Whatcha gonna gopher there within the cone of silence?
Another of the pine nuts says, “He tortoise place in violence.”
And if it ain’t ya mamba then the smooth green grass of home,
just pulled-up roots to range through boots forsnaking legs in loam.
So who is gonna seek the peas beneath the shuffled shell,
reposed as mossy trip up stone in step with trip hop hell,
which takes the paddler from the drink to nearly in the tank?
With snap of finger or somethin’ more, you can take it to the bank!
That was mean… to the spider.
There’s a Great Egret that always hunts in this one cove I paddle by on my local creek. He doesn’t like it if I get too close, but doesn’t seem to mind if I watch him from a reasonable distance. Today I took a quick work break paddle to see how my shoulder would fare, and sat and watched him for a nice little spell while he fished. And this is the best photo I could get with my iPhone. sigh
As soon as I sell my whitewater kayak, I’m using the proceeds and getting the recommended camera. I’m really excited about taking some good (or maybe just not awful) wildlife photos for a change.
Apple snail. Limpkins (bird) eats them. They snail has a roundish shell door they close to keep predators out. Limpkins stick their pointy bill in there and pop they’re in. The birds leave shells on our dock.
If you see a row of pinkish eggs deposited on a water weed, piling, etc they are likely apple snail eggs.
It isn’t a native Apple Snail nor one of the introduced invasive species of apple snails. It could possibly be the native Campeloma decisum, but it might be the Invasive species Cipangopaludina japonica .Here is a photo of a shell of one found on the Saluda River here in SC.
@castoff , @Overstreet
Thanks for the comments. I just thought it would make a good photo. Now you got me thinking and I’ll be doing some reading to get to know this little guy.
If you want to know about the sex life of slugs, you’re at the right place.
Could be worse…
They could be muskovies. They leaves big messes that stain.
We have a motion detecting sprinkler head that sprinkles them away.
Someone missing a brain?
