Think what you could do with a $2K camera!

Found these two on Rock Springs Run where we did an overnight camp paddle.
Figure it was about 8’

Nice. Very nice.

Cute babies LowTech.

There was some renowned kayak expeditioner that was consumed by a reptile on the Nile. Not that long ago. I would only point a camera at one of those if two other navy seals had 12ga street sweepers also pointed the said direction.

We don’t have crocodiles in the US, thankfully. There are multitudes of alligators in Florida and a few in the Southeast.
It is a bit creepy to paddle around them but in my experience any less than 10’ run away. I’ve paddled past some larger ones that won’t run away and seem to be deciding whether you are a meal but they never moved.

Same here. I have probably close to a 100 photos of gaters over the years and it’s often hard to get close w/o them going to the bottom to hide out.
I have some of my decent ones here

Actually, we do. We have both alligators and crocodiles. Alligators are the more common and widespread. The crocodiles are confined to the southern tip of Florida, typically saline water. Here is a pretty good reference:

Reflecting alligator made a nice totem.

Look at that, some kind of reptiles climbing a tree together. Seriously, nice once in a lifetime shot.

I thought I remembered that. Jack had posted a photo of one from down there.

Great photos, sissy. Glad those critters don’t like the cold.

…except in the everglades. They aren’t as aggressive as crocks in Africa or salt water crocks in Australia .

Wow, the photos look amazing! do you use professional technic, or just your phone to take them?

Wow, the photos are amazing! I’ve also seen a lot of beautiful animals and birds, but haven’t taken any photos.
But the next time I’ll do it for sure

Sometimes it is the best to “be in the moment” and not in the camera view finder.

Agree.

But looking at the picture of exotic and commonplace things is the next best things. Those picture help us to focus on the things that might otherwise be missed.

For a photographer a view finder is part of living in the moment. Sort of like having a paddle in the hand as we live in the moment.

Thank you castoff, and the others for opening those other worlds for us. I have so few pictures because it’s cumbersome trying to compose, crop and focus when the boat is rocking and objects moving past.
