Winter activity

Ski - Climb - Paddle
I try to paddle when I can – if there’s open water and someone will join me. Otherwise, as a lover of winter, I can be found cross-country skiing, ice climbing, snowshoeing. Of course I also read about kayaking, watch kayak videoes and dream about trips to come.

4 day river trip for meteor shower-UNTIL
We know the perfect campsite on the river for a 360 view of the meteor showers this weekend. We planned to leave Friday after work and camp on the river for three nights.

Due to an unexpected event at home, we will be under the house, digging out and replacing all of the ancient cast iron sewer pipe.

What a fun winter activity this will be. :frowning: Of course, it could be worse…it could have happened in the summer with triple digit temps.

Oh, the joys of a 100-year old farmhouse. In the words of Roseanne Rosannadanna…“It’s always something.”

apparantly using my canoe as a sled
north of Sudbury Ontario where we will be camping for a week in February in the backcountry with snowshoes and tents and stoves.

Snowshoeing and skiing are excellent paddling conditioners. Downhill is good for FreeStyle( there is lots of leg muscle use in that form of canoeing) and XC for upper body.

And paddling in the ocean with a drysuit and Michelin Man fleece…hmm.

Even in Michigan there are a lot of
things to do in the winter.

If the waters open here at home, I try to go out at least once a week. Year round.

Also xc ski, snowshoe, hike, go sledding with the grandkids (sometimes use one of the river boats) or if the weathers really nasty, I’ll go to my hobby room and sew up a few items.

Love winter, but my body is beginning to not like it as well. Dang! It can be crap getting older, but if we don’t move it we may lose it.

Enjoy life and friends while you can.

Just Do It… (Anything Physical)
roll with the season and “play” in whatever way that gets you moving and gives you joy.

Variety (multisports) is the spice of life (and healthier for one’s body)

Cold weather and snow
is no reason not to go paddling…

Why
Why such a narrow blade? I guess I like the wide blades for grabbing the water.

I just sit and contemplate
Why some stand outside the church criticizing those who come, directing them to another denomination, wondering why the seats are empty ?

It must be a lonely place, that Georgia.

Surgery.
I get everything sewn back together that I destroyed during the paddling season. Or get something taken out that shouldn’t be there. Seems pretty much a mid winter plan the last six years. Going in the 17th.

Gee, 2 Day, Some Advise

Gee, 2 Day, as some advise,
in frank suggestion, maybe word to wise,
as winter we question dogs paddle to mushin',
what sled overboard splashed into discussion,

and while ice is nice we slide much quicker,
from advice to discussion, let's hope without bicker,
though banter be plenty in eddies mischosen,
let's not throw cold water in an air to be frozen,

but sea, hard water is never our norm,
and winter here is often quite warm,
so cheerfully we'll get our boats,
gear and meet up, hope Paddle On floats!

taxes and honey do’s
I try to have them done by Valentine’s Day. When spring arives I don’t want to be stuck in the office or painting our bedroom(for the 4th time).

Winter is also time for chain saws and bon fires. We had 2 ice storms in recent years that we are still cleaning up from. It’s best to get it done while the ticks and chiggers are sleeping.

all of the above!
I try to seek out liquid water. Getting out in conditions can be challenging. Getting out after a fresh snow, when the air is still and the snow is hanging from tree limbs is a really different experience.

It does seem like the trip planning during the off-season prompts some dreams.

I seem to recall some winter photos
I seem to recall some pretty cool winter paddling photos from you in the past. Keep 'em coming!

a little of all
…but I like paddling below the river dams and eagle watch. The rest of the time I work on and repair boats, shop for new gear, watch a lot of paddling dvds like “Paddle to Seattle” and read a lot. Working for the IDNR though…there is always something paddling related to work on through the winter.

You mean g2d?
If you’re talking about my post, there’s no criticism of anything or anyone in there.

Or dis here…

Roy, is that the stem of a wineglass
. . . I see in the background of the first paddle picture? That’s what I do in winter: drink red wine!
