Boats on cars - let’s see ‘em!

I didn’t scape anything off my rack going into a public garage, but I forgot about my rack reducing clearance. It started to catch on the low ceiling. Fortunately I was going slow, and I heard/felt strange things, so I stopped before any damage.

Spotted this oddball electric trike-powered micro-mini-van for sale locally. Trying to imagine one of my 18’ kayaks on that roof rack (though I could definitely fit 2 or 3 of my bagged folders in the back hatch). On the other hand, it matches my bright yellow 24’ cargo box van camper and I could probably drive it up the pullout ramp and carry it inside the 8’ by 16’ box of the truck. It would be a cute “toad.”

Every time I see that color on those Mazda’s I want one : ).

I totaled my Mazda. What I loved about it was the cabin was very quiet and the Bose sound system was amazing. I have a Forestor now, it gets much better mileage and is bigger.

When I bought my Mazda (CX5 with the Miata 6 speed stick) 10 years ago I really wanted that red. Would have cost me an additional $1000 for the color and it was not a stock color for the manual so I was stuck with charcoal gray. Downside of it not being red is that people in parking lots seem to not see it and all 4 corners are dinged up by now from hit and runs. The up side is that though I have to replace most of the front end skin from the bumper up and back over the left wheelwell from a guy smashing the driver’s side front quarter panel last month, all the plastic body parts come in a dark grey. I told the body shop I won’t need them to paint them – close enough to the color for government work, as they say.

I’ve had no mechanical issues or failures with it in the 10 years I’ve driven it, it’s a blast to drive with the stick and it averages 34 mpg highway and 27 around town. But I still wish it was that gorgeous red. I guess I could have the shop spray the new parts that color. Would make it easier to spot in parking lots, though leaving the boat cradles on the Thule rack does help in finding it.

Found two older photos on my phone

I have one of them.

I posted these previously, but add that 14’ 6" is absolutely the limit for my truck bed.

A managable assortment:

A precarious perch:

And a satisfactory arrangement:
