Boats on cars - let’s see ‘em!

Yakima with round bars. Bought the kayak at the factory store on a fall leaf peeper trip to Maine. The roof rack “just happened” to be in the back of the truck during the trip. My wife wondered how that had happened…

That Chucanut looks a lot like my old Folbot Super.

There are some great vehicle/kayak pictures in this thread.

It is important for new boats to be properly secured car-top. This one has been inspected and given the Feline Seal of Approval.

Sissy, how many boats do you have?

Hello, I’m hoping that you can give me some advice. I see that there are straps coming out from under your hood, what are those attached to? my wife and I will be transporting two kayaks on top of my Traverse at the end of May and I cant figure out how to secure the bows without rubbing the begebers out of my paint. I have a trailer that will hold 4 kayaks or canoes, but I don’t want to pull it for just the two of us.

Any number of attachments. Here is one typical .

There are various under-the-hood strap systems. Here are some:

The Yakima Hood Anchors pictured above or the Rhino-rack Anchor Straps which I have pictured above on my Escape. The large end stays under the edge of the hood and won’t pull out. No need to attach them to anything.Rhino strapshttps://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Rhino-Rack/RRRBAS-2.html

Just four. This new one, another Hornbeck in carbon, a PBW SpitFire, and a Perception Swifty 9.5.

I used a pair of these and attached them with a bolt on each side in the from that holds the fender on. They fold into the engine back when not in use. Cheap and easy

Thanks, I have ordered the straps.

Gentry’s Chuckanut series, your Folbot, the classic Kleppers, the Mead do it yourself boats from the 30s to 50s, and half the boats ever designed by the once Godfather of skin-on-frame construction Percy Blandford himself, all look and follow many construction details of this basic boat. Whether you call it a kayak or canoe, these low freeboard, decked canoes with long cockpit openings all harken back to the Rob Roy canoes of the 19th century. It is a popular design format for good reason.
