Demographics . Haven't done it in awhile

What are the mean, median, and mode? It appears that many are approaching 6 Sigma.

You mean liars, damn liars, and statisticians?

Correct. That being said, why would older people be especially keen on telegraphing their age?

… Well, I’ll admit, I have more important things to do right now than post on this forum/thread. Could be those younger folk are just ya know… working a bit harder…

We aren’t. We’ve just accepted it as reality.
We also are a bit proud of still being out there when so many have retired to their chairs. Or their grave.

Maybe to show that they can still do it?

Actually, if you look at the users that are the most active, day in and day out, I think it is because they are retired and doing what they love to do. Those people also (generally) have been around this forum for a long time and actually like to help people. Really, I am serious, they like to help. Sometimes, they (me too) can get a little overbearing, but they really, really want to help.

Just the same, it’s an actual statistic of the age of those responding. No lie about that.

I also paddled around without admitting it, and now I’m going down hill.

I think you’re right, people are extremely helpful on this forum. It is a bit too easy to take that for granted. That is a neat perspective about showing one’s ability to have adventures later in life.

I could also create a map of users’ locations. No doubt the more data the better though for all these types of visualizations.

Here’s a lot more kayaking demographics to chew on. Specifically check page 6: https://outdoorindustry.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/2015-Paddlesports-Research.pdf

Indeed, according to this, in 2015 only 28% of kayakers were aged 45+. 37% were aged 25-44.

Map of users locations. Lots of guesswork here but gives the general idea!

Raosborne, I agree with that. I guess we develop stronger convictions, become less tolerant and lose inhibitions as we age and accumulate experience. There’s a lot that a young people could learn, if they dare approach. We’re most successful when we are approachable.

Wow, not sure what I thought it would be, but didn’t expect that distribution. I do realize that the distribution is probably just the active participants in the sampled discussion, but still suprising.

5yrs, I won’t count the inflatable kayak we used when boating.

(From what I know about posters here, the median age might be higher than you think, self-selected reporting not withstanding.) I used to call paddling.net Geezer.net, until I became one.

Many years ago my wife’s brother said he realized he was getting old when a cop stopped him and he said, “Did I do something wrong, son?”

We’re all still kids, just busted up kids.

I’m in Ontario too! Looks like there aren’t many of us “Northerners” here!

I have relatives in Sarnia but haven’t seen them for over 50 years.
