Surreal pictures. Every one.
Good one!
There are a lot of pretty pictures in this thread, and some are yours, but this one… this one is outstanding!
From ceiling to floor
Earth echoes its tile
Within fluid motion
we drift on beguile
of horizon both distant
and near to the heart
which sends us on journey
ever returning to start
Thank you for that. I sure enjoy reading your posts! Not many websites have a resident poet.
Thank you for your kind words. It is heartening to know that not everyone finds me the Resident Annoyance.
And thank you as well for the hundreds of photos and many paddling reports you have shared. For this beguiled drifter they help journey me to horizons.
Does this count as a pretty picture? If not, the mods are just gonna have to ban me.
I had the Ohio River just north of Louisville all to myself this morning, and it was rocking and rolling! The currents were crazy, and there was a ton of storm debris to dodge, but all the power boats that came out quickly went back in so I was loving it. The current was so strong that it took me less than one-fourth the time to get back in that it took me to paddle out. Fun morning.
The classic paddle up river, and back down river in lieu of a shuttle. I have done that often when solo paddling. Looks like a beautiful day on the water. Have you read 'Shanty Boat" by Harlan Hubbard? If not he and his wife built a shanty boat much of it from lumber found floating down the Ohio. Then spent years floating down the Mississippi drainage. Great story! Amazing couple and artist.
I haven’t read that. It sounds like something I would enjoy, so I am going to try to get my hands on it. I could have built a very nice sized boat for all the trees and also cut boards that I dodged today. Well, if I could build boats.
If my instincts are right you well enjoy it. They had no former experience. Became friends with a small group of people living on shanty boats in Kentucky across from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is an artist, Anna a musician. The locals helped and advised them until they finely finished the boat, and set out for New Orleans. They would float down river in the winter, and find a spot to tie off and plant a garden during the Summer. This was in the early 50s as the shanty boat culture was disappearing. Might say they were river vagabonds.
Good shot
Canoeswithduckheads, I too enjoy the pictures you paint with words. I’m not sure if I interpret them accurately, but I assure you, they are favorable images. I hope I’m nor missing the message by much.
Missouri River, approximately 47 hours into the MR340 this past July. It was definitely starting to mess with our minds, which wasn’t too hard because at this point we’d only had about 5 hours of sleep. We pretty much had to sit for a while and let it lift a bit before it was safe to go on. It cost us some time, but I think it made for a pretty picture!
I have a membership to Kentucky public television, for on-demand streaming. They have a couple of videos about them that I plan to watch. I’m already completely fascinated!
Awesome picture, Castoff. Call me Salvador but I think upside down is much better composition than right side up!
The Parson’s got that special glow.
She nose it’s rainbow sprinkle.
“What’s that? You dare rain my parade?
I’ll rip yer air van, Winkle!”
